Regulation changes and technical reshuffles have failed to bring the desired results in recent years. Maranello has not tasted a world title since 2007/2008. Over the last 15 years, starting in 2010, Ferrari has made massive financial efforts to return to winning in F1, but success has remained elusive.
The great winter expectations have been swept away by the disastrous opening rounds of the 2025 season. Melbourne and Shanghai were enough to erase the euphoric enthusiasm that had built up around the Prancing Horse between Fiorano and Milan. The strong end to 2024 had led many to believe that the start of 2025 could bring smiles to Ferrari. However, the new SF-25—revolutionized compared to last year—still appears, in some ways, to be an enigma for the team in red.
Hopes, illusions, and harsh returns to reality. For too many years, Ferrari’s storyline has been trapped in a vicious cycle, a curse that seems impossible to break—even with massive investments. “La Gazzetta dello Sport,” in its Tuesday, March 25, 2025 edition, has taken a closer look at Ferrari’s financial accounts.
The newspaper highlights Ferrari’s massive expenditures over the past 15 years. Looking at this period, 2025 has marked the worst start for the team. Not even the disastrous 2020 season had yielded so few points: back then, Ferrari had 19 points at this stage—today, only 17.
Ferrari, years of heavy spending, but victory remains a mirage
The Italian sports daily details how, from 2010 to 2013, before the arrival of hybrid power units, Ferrari had average annual operating and development costs of around 500 million euros. This figure does not include driver salaries for Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.
In the following years, spending decreased: “From 2014 to 2020, the figure dropped to an average of 400 million per season, excluding power unit costs,” notes “La Gazzetta dello Sport.”
Since 2021, with the introduction of the budget cap, figures have been further limited. Over the last five years, total spending is estimated to be around 575 million euros.

“Over 5 billion spent in the last 15 years”
“In the past fifteen years, the Maranello team has spent a total exceeding 5.3 billion euros,” reads the newspaper, emphasizing the immense costs incurred by Ferrari in its pursuit of F1 success.
Although “La Gazzetta dello Sport” does not compare Ferrari’s spending to other teams or consider revenue over the same period, it is clear that the money spent has not translated into the expected results on track. The start of 2025 has turned the excitement around Fred Vasseur & Co. into criticism and disappointment, as Ferrari finds itself in unexpectedly poor form.
