2026 as a key year for fuels
“I wouldn’t want everything in 2026 to be decided by the battery or the fuel.” Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur, looking ahead to F1’s new technical reset – power units without MGU-H running on 100% biofuels, slightly narrower cars, and various aerodynamic ‘modes’ (mode-X and mode-Z) – has expressed some concern about the many factors that could make the difference. However, Ferrari has complete confidence in its partner Shell, which is tasked with creating the 100% ‘bio’ fuel.
The agreement between Ferrari and Shell, which was set to expire at the end of 2025, has already been renewed a full 12 months in advance, as stated on the official Maranello website: “Ferrari is pleased to announce the multi-year renewal of its partnership with Shell. The agreement, which will take effect on January 1, 2026, includes Scuderia Ferrari HP, Ferrari Hypercar, and the Ferrari Challenge series.”
In the Mexico City Grand Prix, the Maranello team achieved its fifth victory of the 2024 Formula 1 season, a milestone not reached since 2018, and is now just 29 points away from McLaren in the battle for the Constructors’ Championship. Ferrari has not won a world title since 2008, and regardless of how this season ends, the trend is very positive looking toward 2025 and 2026, the year when Ferrari will still have Shell by its side, as it has for many decades.
Ferrari’s collaboration with Shell stands as one of the most enduring in motorsport, beginning back in 1929. This renewal follows closely after Ferrari secured a new sponsorship deal with banking group UniCredit, set to begin next year. UniCredit will take over from Spain’s Santander, whose partnership with Ferrari concludes on December 31st.
