The Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday unfortunately lasted only a few hundred meters for Charles Leclerc, who was hit in turn 1 of the first lap by the Aston Marton of Lance Stroll and forced to park his disintegrated SF21 on the Hungaroring track. A very disappointing outcome for the Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver who – also seeing how the race developed – would have had a real chance of a podium and, why not, even a final success. Today, however, the winner of the 2019 Italian GP is back on the Hungaroring track. A test session is certainly not enough to alleviate the regret about what happened last weekend, but today the focus has shifted to 2022.
In fact, Charles Leclerc is completing an important day of gathering data for Pirelli, testing the 18-inch tires that will be used in Formula 1 starting with the 2022 season, in parallel with the introduction of the new single-seaters. The Ferrari driver will test a series of dry prototype compounds. These types of sessions of course mainly serve the official tire supplier to acquire data, but also allow the drivers involved to get a very first taste – albeit partial – of what awaits them in terms of grip starting next year. Mercedes will also be involved in these days of activity in Hungary, on track with George Russell.
