The second and final day of Pirelli’s tyre development test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has come to an end, with Ferrari and Cadillac continuing preparations for the next generation of dry-weather Formula 1 tyres.
Arthur Leclerc took over driving duties for Ferrari from his brother Charles Leclerc, who was behind the wheel on the opening day, while Zhou Guanyu continued Cadillac’s testing programme.
During the morning session, the focus remained on evaluating different construction options for the C2 compound. These tyre specifications were first assessed in short-run conditions before the teams moved on to longer stints. Following the lunch break, both drivers concentrated on testing several C2 compound variants over extended race-distance simulations.
Conditions remained extremely demanding throughout the day, with track temperatures peaking at 58°C, while the air temperature reached a high of 36°C.
Arthur Leclerc completed an impressive 141 laps, covering a total distance of 657 kilometres. His fastest lap of the day was a 1:17.430. Zhou Guanyu completed 130 laps for Cadillac, covering 605 kilometres and recording a best time of 1:19.321.
Across the two days of testing at the Montmeló circuit, which also featured Aston Martin on the opening day, teams accumulated a total of 605 laps and 2,817 kilometres as Pirelli continued gathering valuable data for its future tyre development programme.
The next round of Pirelli development testing will take place at Silverstone on the Tuesday and Wednesday following the British Grand Prix weekend. Mercedes and Williams are scheduled to participate, with further evaluations of slick tyre compounds planned as preparations continue for future Formula 1 seasons.
