Scuderia Ferrari continues the development of the SF21 car: at Imola the floor made its debut with the Z trailing edge that was initially scheduled for Portugal, but which, instead, was anticipated in Emilia Romagna in the previous round of the 2021 Formula 1 season, as the Maranello team took advantage of the proximity of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari at home. Now in Algarve a nose with a different design should make its first outing.
The modification studied by the aerodynamicists led by David Sanchez is aimed at balancing the single-seater by orienting the flows towards the bargeboards and the floor in a different way, after an increase in the load at the rear was sought with the floor that was used at the Imola circuit.
The Maranello team is satisfied that this year’s car reacts very well to the changes unlike last season’s SF1000 which was rather “deaf” to the updates.
The modification to the nose involving the cape is recognized by the different cut in the final part of the cape with the floor taking an L shape, easily comparable with the previous version, below, which had a narrower sidewalk in the final section.

The solution will be tested tomorrow on Carlos Sainz’s car: it is very likely that comparative tests will be carried out in free practice to assess the impact of the update.
