Scuderia Ferrari returned to the Mugello track, even though the Italian circuit is no longer on the Formula 1 calendar. The motorsport race track located in Scarperia e San Piero, Florence, Tuscany, owned by the Maranello brand, was chosen by Pirelli for the development of the 2025 tires, following the plan agreed upon by the Italian sole tire supplier with the FIA.
This was the fifth development test after Barcelona, Jerez de la Frontera, Suzuka, and Le Castellet. On Thursday, Charles Leclerc was on track with the SF-24: after his retirement on Sunday in the Canadian Grand Prix due to an engine misfire problem, the Monegasque driver returned to action to follow the evolution of the tires for next year. Charles Leclerc conducted comparative tests between different compounds and constructions in preparation for the 2025 Formula 1 championship.
Given the nature of this particular track, special attention was paid to the hardest compounds in the range planned for the next season, with the main strategic objective being to reduce overheating. In the afternoon, it rained, necessitating the use of intermediate tires, thus continuing the work started at the Paul Ricard circuit. By the end of the day, Charles Leclerc had completed 120 laps, equivalent to 630 kilometers.
Tomorrow it will be Carlos Sainz‘s turn to complete the two days in Tuscany: the motorsport race track was chosen for its varied layout, which features a long straight and combines very fast banked corners with low-speed chicanes, offering a very useful scenario for defining the new tires.
