Former Scuderia Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso hopes to get the most out of the Alpine just as he did years ago with the Ferrari F2012 car, with which he lost the Formula 1 world title by just three points. The Spanish driver is a two times Formula 1 world champion, but has also finished in second place three times.
One of those years in which he came very close to winning the title is one of the most special for the Spaniard, as Fernando Alonso feels 2012 is his best season in Formula 1. Back then, Fernando took the fight for the title to the last round in a Ferrari car which was clearly mush slower than the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel. Now, after two years out of the premier class of motorsport, he hopes to squeeze as much performance out of the Alpine, just as he did years ago with the F2012.
Fernando Alonso said in this regard: “I think 2012 was the best season for me. This is both in terms of driving style and results, but also for getting the most out of Ferrari. In 2012 I was able to get 100% from the car. I hope to be close to it again this year, because I have learned a lot in my two years out of Formula 1. I’m intrigued to see how I can apply this next season.” – the Asturian said, as reported by Sky Sports.
What Fernando does not doubt is the fact that he returns to Formula 1 as a better team player thanks to his experiences outside the sport: “In an endurance championship you have to share everything with your teammates, so you have to be a perfect team player much more than you are in Formula 1. So I think this leads to growth, not only on the professional side but also on the personal one, also for how some of those races are approached, such as the Dakar. It is a professional challenge, but also a personal one like when you spend two weeks in the middle of nowhere with only your co-driver.” – the former Ferrari driver concluded.
