Felipe Massa wants to go all the way: the trial to “reclaim” the 2008 world title has officially begun.
He has never hidden it. Felipe Massa wants to go all the way in the legal battle over the Crashgate scandal and try to “take back” the world championship he narrowly missed in 2008 with Ferrari. The former driver has now arrived at the Royal Courts of Justice in London for the first stages of the proceedings that directly involve him.
In the coming days, the process will move from the reading of the case files to hearing the testimonies of those involved. The goal is to finally bring clarity to one of the most controversial championships in Formula 1 history. Among those present in court are representatives of the FIA and FOM, along with Bernie Ecclestone. It was, in fact, an interview with the former Formula 1 boss that convinced Massa to reopen the case, after the British businessman admitted he had known about the Crashgate scandal as early as 2008.
So, what happens next?
During the sessions that will take place in London over the next few hours, prosecution and defense will attempt to make their arguments heard. If Massa’s lawyers succeed in convincing the court to move forward with the case, new evidence could be presented. Only if the court gives a favorable opinion would the case move into the full trial phase — which could, however remotely, lead to the Brazilian driver being awarded the 2008 title.
