Alex Albon has revealed that the characteristics of the 2026 Formula 1 cars could perfectly match Lewis Hamilton’s driving style.
The drivers have gathered their first impressions behind the wheel of the new-generation single-seaters, and the way these cars must be driven has changed significantly compared to the previous era. According to Alex Albon, it could be Lewis Hamilton who benefits the most from the new 2026 Formula 1 machinery. The British driver is preparing to return to the track in Bahrain at the wheel of the Ferrari SF-26, and it will soon become clear whether he can confirm the encouraging early sensations.
During the opening days of on-track activity, it quickly became evident how crucial battery management is with this generation of cars. On-board footage has highlighted how drivers are almost forced to raise engine revs in order to maximize energy recovery. This technical aspect represents a key crossroads in determining the overall performance differences between the various cars on the grid.
Even in qualifying, the focus is expected to shift more heavily towards the preparation lap. Several drivers have already criticized this emerging trend, yet adapting to a completely different approach will now be essential in order to extract the maximum lap time. The 2026 regulations appear to demand a more calculated and energy-conscious driving style, which could reshape competitive hierarchies.
Albon’s comments bring a smile to Hamilton and Ferrari
Alex Albon believes that Lewis Hamilton is the driver most likely to feel comfortable with the 2026 Formula 1 cars. The key characteristics of these new machines could align closely with the seven-time World Champion’s natural driving style at Ferrari. By the end of testing in Bahrain, Hamilton’s own verdict will be clearer after he has completed a significant mileage programme in the SF-26.
“Which driver on the grid will be most comfortable with the 2026 regulation cars? I think it could be Lewis,” the Thai driver said during a video published by Williams alongside Carlos Sainz. “They are lighter. I believe his style suits these cars better. He does not focus that much on corner exit, and I do not think that is the worst thing with these cars.”
Hamilton and the SF-26 ahead of the 2026 season
There is no doubt that the British driver has already been able to rely on the strong reliability demonstrated by the Scuderia di Maranello’s power unit. During last week’s test sessions, beyond the headline lap times – which carry limited significance at this stage – Lewis Hamilton also completed an encouraging race pace simulation.
With the previous generation of cars, it often appeared that the British driver never fully found the ideal feeling behind the wheel. However, the situation could change starting from 2026. Although Hamilton has not entirely embraced the new regulations, he has expressed several positive impressions after driving the Ferrari SF-26. Much will depend on the overall performance and balance of the Ferrari challenger, yet this technical cycle may ultimately prove to be one that plays into the hands of car number 44.
