Ferrari continues to struggle while McLaren isn’t putting a foot wrong: Carlo Vanzini tried to explain why.
After what happened in 2024, few would have expected to see a Ferrari with so many issues and a McLaren that seems to be performing flawlessly. The Scuderia from Maranello decided to revolutionize the car that last year came close to winning the Constructors’ title in the final race.
This decision puzzled fans and many in the paddock, especially after seeing the SF-25 hit the track looking anything but competitive. Ahead of the season, there was talk of a Ferrari ready to dominate both championships, only to be faced with a completely different reality.
From the Sakhir tests, Ferrari realized it had a car with several limitations to address. These limitations have effectively prevented Leclerc and Hamilton from challenging their rivals, with the Briton surely having hoped for a different situation upon joining Ferrari.
Carlo Vanzini assesses the Scuderia’s difficulties
But what happened over the winter? Carlo Vanzini discussed it in a recent segment where he attempted to assess the situation. “Ferrari didn’t work with the same peace of mind as McLaren. They believed last year’s car had reached the end of its development cycle, and for that reason, they decided to move to a new project. A new project that was started by Enrico Cardile, who then left Maranello.” – the Italian pointed out.
“I’d like to understand who pushed for such a major change to the front suspension and all the modifications compared to 2024. Could it be that the desperation to win clouded Ferrari’s judgment? It seems they went chasing minor gains here and there without a clear direction, something McLaren, on the other hand, managed very well,” said the commentator on his YouTube channel.
