After the first half of the 2023 Formula One season with Ferrari, Frédéric Vasseur has assessed the team’s performance. This took place during a media event where several Italian news media outlets was also present. Here, Fred Vasseur had the opportunity to analyze what elements are still lacking for Ferrari to aim for a championship victory.
The car unveiled on February 14 was supposed to be the one to bring the title back to Maranello. However, that hasn’t been the case, and we all know how this first part of the season has gone. Furthermore, all of this occurred under the guidance of a new team principal who expected to have a better car.
For several weeks, there has been talk of new arrivals at Ferrari and a general reorganization of the Scuderia. In this regard, Fred Vasseur was asked what he was still searching for and what is missing at Ferrari to win championships.
“It’s not always the case that something is missing from a team whether they win or not. You don’t need something special. In Red Bull, they don’t have a magic wand to create the car; maybe it’s Max who is doing an extraordinary job today. It could also be the fact that they are dominating and putting Max in an excellent position to do a good job.”

The Team Principal then analyzed the situation at Scuderia Ferrari: “I’m not sure that we need to change something; we need to improve in every single area, in every single department. Earlier, we talked about missing 2 or 3 tenths, but I’m convinced we’re losing more.” – the French manager added.
“This means it’s more of a mentality we need to adopt, that perhaps we’re exposed in some areas and we need to hire to reinforce certain areas. It’s an ongoing process. I don’t want to say something is missing; the team spirit is there, the budget and facilities are okay. However, we still need to improve every single week, on every subject. So, that’s the mindset, and probably that’s also the direction I want to push the team towards, always striving for something more.” – the Ferrari boss concluded.
