The Formula 1 weekend format is set to undergo some minor changes related to the media duties of the drivers starting with the British Grand Prix weekend onwards. Silverstone will host the next round of the 2022 Formula 1 championship on Sunday 3rd July.
Since the beginning of the 2022 Formula 1 championship, driver press conferences have been scheduled for Friday mornings, ahead of the first free practice session. This marked a change from their previous years, when the press conferences were held on Thursdays. The idea was for drivers to have less media commitments on Thursday, but the conclusion was Friday have become far too busy, with drivers not able to take part in both the media events, the team debriefings, alongside the practice sessions and usual post-practice interviews.
As a result, driver press conferences are set to return to taking place on Thursdays, with the media event due to be held 23 hours before the first free practice session commences.
Yet the change is subject to FIA World Motor Sport Council approval, though it is expected to be approved.
The modifications – if approved – would see the drivers’ press conference take place for one hour on Thursday, with ten drivers attending. This would be split across two 30-minute sessions attended by five drivers each.

Those drivers not in attendance have to take part in a media session organised by their team on Thursday.
The team bosses’ press conference will continue to be scheduled for Saturday morning, which takes place for one hour with six in attendance and finishes no less than one hour and 30 minutes prior to the final free practice session.
