La Formula 1 va in vacanza con un padrone di nome Lewis Hamilton. Sul circuito di Budapest il pilota inglese della Mercedes ha dominato la dodicesima prova del Mondiale 2018, quart’ultima del calendario europeo e ultima prima della pausa estiva, che si concluderà nell’ultimo weekend di agosto in Belgio. Dopo il sorpasso su Vettel di sette giorni fa in Germania, Hamilton ha bissato il successo, allungando di altri 7 punti nella classifica del Mondiale sul tedesco, secondo all’Hungaroring e ora staccato di 24 lunghezze (213 contro 189). Nulla di definito, ovviamente, con ancora 9 Gp da disputare, ma il margine è importante considerando lo strapotere che le Frecce d’Argento hanno mostrato in gara anche sull’asciutto, dopo aver ottenuto la pole grazie alla pioggia, decisiva pure a Hockenheim.

«Il secondo posto non era quello che volevamo per questo fine settimana, ma è stato il massimo che abbiamo potuto raggiungere». Così Sebastian Vettel, dopo il Gp d’Ungheria, vinto da Lewis Hamilton, che si allontana un pò in classifica generale. Il pilota della Ferrari è riuscito a superare Valtteri Bottas negli ultimi giri, insieme con Kimi Raikkonen, conquistando la seconda piazza. A Sky ha detto: «Abbiamo avuto un piccolo problema al pit-stop, poi ho dato tutto per prendere Bottas. Sapevo che le sue gomme si sarebbero degradate sempre di più e ho aspettato fino alla fine per attaccarlo, la scelta giusta». Interrogato sul contatto col finlandese della Mercedes dopo il sorpasso, il tedesco ha ammesso: «Io ormai ero davanti, ho sentito un colpo da dietro e ho visto che c’erano Valtteri e Kimi». La Ferrari è uscita indenne dall’urto, mentre Bottas ha avuto dei danni all’ala anteriore.
