F1 introduces new fan format starting in Austin: “Grid Gigs” will energize the moments before the race
Formula 1 continues its mission to enhance the show and attract more fans through new experiences. This time, the sport has officially launched a brand-new pre-race event designed to make the atmosphere even more engaging before the lights go out. The initiative, called F1 Grid Gigs, will make its debut at the Austin Grand Prix and feature a special guest performer on the grid.
This new idea will also be repeated at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, as part of a partnership between Formula 1 and American Express. The goal is to add extra entertainment for fans waiting for the on-track action to begin. Given the American audience’s long tradition of combining sports and live shows, the format is expected to be very well received in the United States.

F1 Grid Gigs is set to make its first appearance during the Austin race weekend. The event will feature a live show during the pre-race build-up, with local country artist Drake Milligan performing on the grid. The performance will take place right before the drivers get into their cars and line up for the start, aiming to entertain both fans at the circuit and those watching from home. For the Las Vegas round, a world-renowned artist is expected to take the stage.
Drake Milligan expressed his excitement about performing at the Texas event: “I’m thrilled to perform at the Austin Grand Prix in Texas! There’s nothing like the energy of this city during race weekend, and I can’t wait to be part of it. It’s the perfect stage for live music — with the roar of engines and the passion of the fans! I can’t wait to bring some country heat to the Circuit of The Americas.”
Emily Prazer, Formula 1’s Chief Commercial Officer, also commented on the initiative: “There’s nothing quite like the energy of a Formula 1 starting grid, as the world gets ready to watch the best drivers compete. F1 Grid Gigs, presented by American Express, will make one of the most anticipated moments of a Grand Prix weekend even more special.”
She added that the new pre-race format “has been designed to capture and celebrate the thrill of the grid and to give fans, both trackside and watching at home, a taste of the adrenaline and excitement before the racing begins.”
