After a strong first pre-season testing sesson for Scuderia Ferrari, this week’s test in Barcelona did not go the same way for the Maranello team, with only a few laps in the morning session on Tuesday. Technical problems on the SF90 meant that Monegasque racing driver Charles Leclerc was able to complete only 6 laps at the Circuit de Catalunya in the opening three hours, as the Italian side spent most of the time working on the cooling system of car in the garage.
However, this was the only hiccup for Scuderia Ferrari since testing began ten days ago and after thorough checks of the SF90, Charles Leclerc was able to return back out on track for the last hour of the morning session.
Despite Charles Leclerc’s lost track time, German driver Sebastian Vettel will still be taking over the car immediately after the lunch break, the team have confirmed.
It was Antonio Giovinazzi who topped the opening session of the second Formula 1 pre-season test in Barcelona on Tuesday. After seeing Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly set an early benchmark in the Honda-powered RB15, Giovinazzi managed to edge ahead and grab P1 with 20 minutes remaining in the morning session, posting a best lap time of 1m18.589s.
Lewis Hamilton debuted a number of updated parts on the Mercedes W10 as the team looked to recover from a difficult start to testing last week, and managed 83 laps in P8. Hamilton will hand the reins of the car to teammate Valtteri Bottas this afternoon.
Running resumes at 2pm local time in Barcelona (1pm UK), continuing for another four hours.
