Saudi Arabia hosts the second round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship at the fastest street circuit on the calendar, where F1 drivers have to keep their concentration all the time and not lose their focus for even a fraction of a second given the track characteristics.
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit has been designed by well known Formula 1 track architect, Hermann Tilke, who worked closely in conjunction with Formula 1’s technical experts to make sure fans can enjoy close racing and a lot of excitement. The circuit will take in the waterfront corniche, a great resort overlooking the Red Sea.
Like other Formula 1 races in the Middle East, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix event will take place at night under floodlights.
Facts:
Last season in Saudi Arabia only 13 cars reached the flag, matching the lowest number of finishers in 2021 (Hungary, where there was a first-corner pile-up), while Scuderia Ferrari had both cars on podium (with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz) in consecutive races for the first time since Singapore 2019.
In 2022, Max Verstappen won ahead of Charles Leclerc by almost half of a second: 0.549s was the closest winning margin since Pierre Gasly won the 2020 Italian Grand Prix over Carlos Sainz by 0.415s.
Max Verstappen’s won in the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix came on the 28th anniversary of his father Jos’ Formula 1 debut in the 1994 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Jeddah Street Circuit was the 75th different venue to join the Formula 1 calendar.
