Welcome to the Canadian F1 Grand Prix! This race is one of the most exciting events on the F1 calendar, known for its fast track, unpredictable weather, and enthusiastic fans. In this presentation, we’ll take a closer look at the history of the race, the track, the teams and drivers, and what to expect from this year’s event.
History slide: The Canadian Grand Prix has been a fixture on the F1 calendar since 1967. The race has been held at several different tracks over the years, including Mosport Park, Mont-Tremblant, and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The current track is named after Gilles Villeneuve, a Canadian racing legend who won six Grand Prix races before his untimely death in 1982.
Stats:
Out of 41 events held at the track, the Grand Prix has been clinched from pole position 20 times, while the polesitter has landed on the podium 26 times, implying that only on six occasions, the polesitter finished on the podium without scoring the race victory.
It is worth pointing out that winning races from the front row of the grid has been a norm, as it has happened 27 times at this track. Nonetheless, 14 events have been won from positions starting from third or further back.
Two Formula 1 legends hold the record for most wins at this venue: Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. The British driver notched his seventh win at the race track four years ago, and if he secures another triumph in Canada, he will equal the record for most F1 wins at a single circuit.
Ten wins apiece for German and British drivers are tied for the most wins of any other nationality. In addition to Michael Schumacher’s seven race wins, German drivers Ralf Schumacher and former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel have won three times, while British drivers Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and Jenson Button have contributed to Hamilton’s total.

From 1989 to 1996, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve witnessed a streak of eight seasons with no repeat winners, the longest such streak.
Back-to-back wins at this circuit have been achieved by Williams, Scuderia Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes. No team has won more than three consecutive races here, a feat accomplished by the Maranello team (2002-04), McLaren (2010-12), and Mercedes (2015-17).
