F1 unveils 2026 Sprint calendar: three new circuits and three major departures for the next Formula 1 season
F1 has officially confirmed the six races that will host the Sprint format in the 2026 season. As in the last two seasons, the number of weekends featuring Sprint remains unchanged, but the choice of circuits changes dramatically: only two of the 2025 venues have been confirmed.
The Sprint calendar will begin at the Chinese Grand Prix, scheduled in Shanghai as the second race of the year, and then continue in Miami for the sixth round of the season. Both events had already hosted the format in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The most significant novelty concerns Montreal, which will host its first Sprint, with the Canadian GP moved to May compared to its traditional June slot.
Three brand-new debuts in the 2026 F1 calendar
The Silverstone circuit, which had experimented with Sprint only in 2021, will return to the current configuration, offering British fans an even more intense weekend. Great anticipation also surrounds the Dutch Grand Prix, which will see its last season on the Formula 1 calendar and will host a Sprint for the first time. Finally, Singapore will also join the group, with the Marina Bay Street Circuit bringing the format to the spectacular night setting of Southeast Asia.
At the same time, two historic events leave the Sprint calendar: Interlagos, the scene of spectacular races in recent years, and the United States Grand Prix in Austin, which hosted the format for three consecutive seasons.
Domenicali and Ben Sulayem: “A success that keeps growing”
“The Sprint has continued to grow in popularity and positive impact since 2021,” said Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. “With four competitive sessions instead of two, it offers more action for fans and broadcasters, increasing attendance and viewership. 2026 will bring a new regulatory era, and having three new Sprint venues will make the championship even more exciting.”
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem was also pleased: “The format has become an increasingly compelling part of the championship, ensuring high-intensity races and additional entertainment. With the new 2026 cars, Sprint will continue to grow alongside our ambitions for the future of the sport.”
