The 2026 Spanish Grand Prix is set for a hot and almost completely dry weekend in Madrid, with sunshine forecast across all three days at the new Madring circuit. Temperatures are expected to rise steadily from Friday to Sunday, reaching a maximum of 33°C on race day, while the chance of rain remains virtually non-existent.
The conditions should remove one major variable as Formula 1 prepares for its first race weekend at Madring. However, the increasing heat could create another challenge, with the FIA potentially declaring a heat hazard for Sunday’s race, as happened at Monza last weekend.
The Spanish Grand Prix moves to Madrid and Madring
Only one day remains before the eagerly anticipated 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, which for the first time since 1991 will not be held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Barcelona venue instead hosted the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix earlier this season, while the event representing Spain on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar now moves to the newly built Madring circuit in Madrid.
The new track is located in the Spanish capital around the IFEMA exhibition centre, presenting Formula 1 drivers with a completely new challenge. With no previous Grand Prix experience at the venue to rely on, adapting quickly to the circuit’s characteristics will be particularly important before qualifying and the race.
The learning process is expected to be demanding, with Ferrari junior Tuukka Taponen having already highlighted how little margin for error Madring can offer drivers. At least according to the weather forecast, however, rain should not add another complication to the opening Formula 1 weekend at the circuit.
2026 Spanish GP weather forecast: No rain, only rising heat
According to the forecasts reported by AccuWeather.com, Madrid is expected to remain largely sunny throughout the weekend, with maximum temperatures above 30°C on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The heat will intensify as the weekend progresses, rising from 31°C on Friday to 32°C on Saturday before reaching 33°C for the Grand Prix on Sunday.
Rain is effectively absent from the forecast, with a zero per cent probability on both Friday and Saturday and only a one per cent chance on Sunday. Winds are also expected to remain relatively light across all three days.
The hottest conditions are therefore expected for the race itself. With temperatures reaching 33°C, the FIA could declare a heat hazard for the Spanish Grand Prix, as it did during the previous Formula 1 weekend at Monza.
Spanish GP 2026: Madrid weather forecast
- Friday 11 September: Bright sunshine; maximum temperature 31°C; NNW wind at 6 km/h; gusts up to 19 km/h; 0% chance of rain.
- Saturday 12 September: Mostly sunny; maximum temperature 32°C; NNE wind at 7 km/h; gusts up to 19 km/h; 0% chance of rain.
- Sunday 13 September: Bright sunshine; maximum temperature 33°C; SSE wind at 7 km/h; gusts up to 20 km/h; 1% chance of rain.
With dry conditions forecast throughout the weekend, drivers and teams should be able to focus entirely on learning Madring and adapting their cars to the new circuit without the added uncertainty of rain. Instead, rising temperatures are expected to become the defining weather factor as Formula 1 prepares for qualifying and Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.
