After the Montreal debacle, Ferrari is going all out with the aim of competing on equal terms with McLaren and Red Bull. About a month after its initial release, the second major update package for the SF-24 is debuting, complementing the new version seen at Imola with the EVO version. Let’s take a look at all the updates and new features introduced on the Ferrari SF-24 for the Spanish GP in Barcelona.

In recent days, numerous hints have emerged about the updates Ferrari would introduce for this weekend’s GP. The first visibly modified component is the sidepods, which now feature a much more pronounced undercut. This change is visible in the area around the Shell logo, with the lower part of the “belly” now curving more inward toward the center of the car.

Here, the aerodynamic map has been significantly altered, with the airflow encountering a larger section toward the rear. This greatly improves the efficiency and downforce generated by the car’s body. Also in the sidepod area, the “cobra” beside the Halo has been modified to be taller to better manage the changes in the aerodynamic map. Additionally, the sidepod area includes a more accentuated geometry to improve airflow toward the rear and the beam wing.

Another crucial modification is in the floor and Venturi channel entrance area. Here, Ferrari’s engineers have significantly lowered the vertical height of the intake to generate more underbody downforce. This also slightly changes the aerodynamic balance of the floor, as the maximum downforce point is reached earlier. This results in a setup with a slightly more front-focused alignment. Furthermore, the Ferrari engineers have adjusted the inclination of the internal fences in the Venturi channel entrance area to better manage the airflow directed to the floor. This modification also aims to manage the airflow directed to the FEW to create vortices and seal the floor.

Following the floor modification, there is a new design for the FEW, which is larger to increase the power of the vortex that seals the floor. Finally, to optimize the performance of the new floor specification, Ferrari has introduced a new diffuser with geometry and shapes that enhance the extraction of air from under the car. The main changes are in the keel and new geometries that further accelerate the exiting air.
