Formula 1 is preparing to race under the spectacular night lights of Singapore, where McLaren could be crowned world champion. Here is the LIVE coverage of FP1.
Everything is ready for the return to Singapore, one of the most iconic and demanding circuits on the calendar. The city lights of the Asian metropolis will illuminate the track, while both rain and heat are expected to play a major role. For Ferrari, this represents almost the last opportunity to secure a victory, whereas McLaren is very close to claiming the championship. Follow the LIVE FP1 coverage starting at 11:30!
The circuit
The Marina Bay Circuit is one of the toughest challenges for drivers: 4.9 kilometers of technical corners, barriers just inches away, and extreme weather conditions with high temperatures and stifling humidity. The track tests not only the cars but also the physical endurance of the drivers, so much so that the FIA has for the first time allowed the use of cooling vests. Expect scorching conditions, even as rain could play a role throughout the weekend.
Last year, the Singapore lights witnessed Lando Norris taking a narrow victory over his rivals. Behind him were Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri. The 2024 edition was also notable for being the first without yellow flags or Safety Car interventions on this challenging street circuit.
Top teams update
Once again, a lot is at stake for McLaren at Marina Bay. After missing their first championship opportunity in Baku, the papaya cars are now very close to securing the title, with both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris eager to bounce back after a challenging Azerbaijan weekend.
The stakes are equally high for Ferrari, who are playing their penultimate card to hope for a win in a disastrous 2025 season. On paper, the Singapore track, along with Las Vegas, remains one of the few circuits favorable to the SF-25. However, Charles Leclerc has already indicated that securing a victory this year will be extremely difficult.
Mercedes will be determined to outpace Ferrari in the fight for second place in the Constructors’ Championship, while Max Verstappen will aim for his third consecutive win following Monza and Baku, as well as his first-ever victory in Singapore.
