The Canadian Grand Prix two weeks ago saw Ferrari engaged in a series of power unit changes on Charles Leclerc’s F1-75 car, which meant the Monegasque driver was forced to start from the back row at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, but on the positive side it guaranteed him two new power unit components that can be used in the next part of the 2022 Formula One season, hopefully without problems. Until the mid-season summer break the Maranello team will also be looking for long-term solutions for the power unit failures suffered in recent weeks.
At Silverstone, on the other hand, it was the Ferrari F1-75 car of Carlos Sainz, together with Haas and Alfa Romeo’s single-seaters, who rotated some engine components, thus reaching the limit number of elements, beyond which penalties are applied.
In the official document concerning the replacement of components of the power units released by the FIA ahead of the first free practice session for the 2022 Formula 1 British Grand Prix earlier today, in fact, only cars using engines made in Maranello are present. Below is the complete list:
Alfa Romeo’s Chinese Zhou Guanyu has changed all the components of his PU;
Haas’ Mick Schumcher has replaced the ICE, MGU-H and MGU-K;
Carlos Sainz switched turbo, MGU-H and MGU-K.
Valtteri Bottas, with the second Alfa, only changed the MGU-K;
Finally, Charles Leclerc used a new exhaust.
A trickle of spare parts that once again testify to the difficulties Ferrari has had in terms of reliability up to this point of the 2022 Formula 1 season. In any case, none of the drivers mentioned above will have to serve penalties on the grid.
