Ferrari disappointed at Silverstone, but the field remains incredibly close
The Ferrari team, which had shown strong form throughout the weekend up until qualifying, could not deliver the decisive blow in Q3. Both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who currently race for the historic Maranello-based team, were let down by small but costly mistakes in their final flying laps. As a result, the two Ferrari drivers will start from the third row of the grid.
This outcome is somewhat unfortunate, especially considering the promising pace shown by the team during the free practice sessions. Nevertheless, the time gaps among the front-runners are extremely tight: only two tenths of a second separate the top six drivers on the starting grid. This makes the 2025 British Grand Prix one of the most unpredictable and closely contested races of the current Formula 1 season.
From pole-sitter Max Verstappen to Charles Leclerc, who will line up in sixth position, all the leading contenders appear to have the potential to battle for top positions on the legendary Silverstone Circuit. As for the Red Bull Racing driver from Hasselt, Max Verstappen emerged unexpectedly as the fastest man after a rather anonymous performance in all three free practice sessions. The reigning World Champion stunned his rivals by clinching pole position with a masterful lap time of 1:24.892.
2025 F1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone: weather forecast for race day
As is often the case in the United Kingdom, the weather in the British Isles can deliver plenty of surprises, especially at Silverstone. Sunday, July 6, 2025, is shaping up to be a day marked by uncertainty in terms of meteorological conditions over the Northamptonshire region, home to the historic Silverstone Circuit.
During the morning hours, local authorities are forecasting a high probability of rain showers, with chances reaching up to 90%. However, as the day progresses, the precipitation is expected to ease and gradually become less of a concern for teams and drivers participating in the Formula 1 race.
By around 16:00 – the scheduled start time of the Grand Prix – British governmental weather agencies are not predicting any further rainfall. At the exact moment when the race is set to begin, the skies above the Silverstone circuit are expected to be mostly overcast, but with only a 20% chance of rain. The air temperature should remain cool, hovering around 20 degrees Celsius.
That said, the British Grand Prix has a long history of surprising twists related to weather conditions. Therefore, nothing can be taken for granted – especially when it comes to forecasts in the ever-unpredictable English climate.
