During a recent interview, Carlos Sainz Senior confirmed the market rumors linking his son to a possible move to Audi at the end of the Spanish driver’s contract with Scuderia Ferrari next season.
These statements contrast with what the driver’s entourage from Maranello stated a few weeks ago, indicating that Carlos would be fully focused on continuing his journey with Ferrari.
Carlos Sainz Sr. Confirms Rumors Regarding His Son’s Move to Audi
“Obviously, there are contacts, but at the moment there’s nothing concrete,” stated the Rally World Champion in an exclusive interview with Planet.F1. “I think for us, it’s a moment to wait and see. Of course, Audi is moving. They’re working hard. They have the ambition to become very strong, very quickly. So, they’re moving very rapidly.” – he added.
Carlos’s father’s words have immediately reignited one of the hottest rumors of the silly season. Just a few weeks ago, news had leaked that the Madrid-born driver had already signed a pre-contract with the Ingolstadt team for the 2025 Formula 1 championship, although it was subsequently denied by his entourage.
“I think Andreas worked with Carlos for a couple of years at McLaren,” Sainz Sr. continued. “They know each other very well and had a period of great success. I believe Andreas is one of the managers who appreciates Carlos the most and the qualities he can express in terms of speed and feedback. I think he knows him very well. First of all, I think it’s really positive that Audi has made the move to F1. I think it will be a good place in the future, that’s for sure.” – he concluded, according to Planet.F1

The Spanish driver still has a few months left before the end of the season to define his future together with the Maranello team. Both parties have reiterated their desire to make a decision by December. It remains to be seen whether this decision will revolve around a departure or an extension together.
