Formula 1 in Italy: a passion driven by Ferrari
Last June 2022, the results of an interesting research by StageUp and Ipsos were released, which had clearly showed the popularity and interest increase of Formula One in Italy.
There are 27.5 million Formula 1 fans in Italy, 8 million of the which assiduously follow the F1 world championship each race weekend. 76.5% of the entire pool interested in F1 is – clearly – a Ferrari fan. The Maranello team’s fans have been quantified at 21 million, an increase compared to the previous two years (when in fact the total was 18.2 million) by 9.5%.
The survey pointed out that in 2002, at the height of Michael Schumacher’s winning era with the Prancing Horse, there were 31.5 million Italians who were fans of Formula 1, of which 24.7 were Ferrari fans (equal to 78.5% ). In the analysis concluded in May 2022, 56% of those interested in Formula 1 were male, 64% have a medium/high income and 71% have a diploma or degree, with an average age greater than 34 years.

On the podium we then then Friuli Venezia Giulia (data per 10,000 inhabitants) with 3.6 members and the Marche region at 3.4. Then follow Lombardy (2.9), Calabria (2.8) and Emilia Romagna (2.4). The Molise and Valle d’Aosta are at the lower end of this special ranking, given the fact that there are no active Ferrari Clubs. Lastly, the largest number of clubs belongs to Lombardy, with 24, followed by Veneto with 23 and Emilia Romagna with 16.
At the end of 2021, there were 157 Italian Ferrari Fan Clubs, to which there are 42 more added all around the world, for a total of 13.8 thousand members.
