Formula One arrived in Russia in fine style in 2014, with the inaugural Grand Prix held on a street circuit designed by Hermann Tilke, and laid out around the heart of the Sochi Olympic Park site, the scene of the Winter Olympic Games. The Russian GP has a breathtaking backdrop and 53 laps of neck-braking 90 degree corners paired with almost-straights. Since its inception in 2014, only Mercedes drivers have taken the top step on the podium.
Scuderia Ferrari did nothing special at the first race, with Fernando Alonso finishing sixth and Kimi Raikkonen ninth. But the following year, Sebastian Vettel came second. In 2016, Kimi was third and the following year came the Scuderia’s best team result, with Sebastian again second, ahead of Kimi third. Two years ago, the same driver pairing finished third and fourth. In 2019, Charles Leclerc finished third for the Scuderia, while Sebastian Vettel was forced to retire due to an engine issue.
Join us for the latest updates and results from the Sochi Autodrom, as the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix is about to get underway, with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc at the wheel of the SF1000, ready to score as many points as possible in the next race of the 2020 Formula 1 season.
