The timeliness and the reasons behind the new technical directive to limit porpoising are based on very valid reasons. The FIA has achieved the aim of being active on a potential safety problem, even managing (with a skilful interpretation of the rules) to get the approval of teams that did not seem to bothered by this issue.
The only contraindication for the International Federation is the inclusion in the already complex system of regulations (technical, sporting and financial) of an additional procedure that will not be easy to perform and control.
For the collection of data relating to the oscillations, each driver on Friday will have to run a sequence of three consecutive laps (without using the mobile wing) at a fast pace. If the FIA suspects that the pace is deliberately below the speed potential of the car, the driver will have to repeat the sequence.
Once the checks have been successfully passed, the values of height, adjustment of springs and shock absorbers, as well as the aerodynamic configuration will be frozen for the rest of the weekend. Basically, at the end of the third free practice session, teams will have to present to the FIA a sort of form containing all the parameters concerned, combined with the oscillation value which must obviously be within the limits set.

Subsequently teams will be allowed to change these parameters only in the event that the qualifying conditions were to be different from the third free practice session (rain / dry or vice versa).
