Max Verstappen now seriously risks another penalty and faces disqualification for Spielberg or Silverstone: the full ranking of “bad” drivers in F1
Ouch, Max! The incident with George Russell in the Spanish GP weighs heavily! Verstappen is now one step away from a one-race disqualification and risks missing either the Spielberg GP or the Silverstone event: let’s take a look at the complete penalty standings in F1. The Dutch champion is the only driver close to the automatic “race ban.”
The move on George Russell’s Mercedes during the Spanish Grand Prix did not sit well with the race stewards of the Iberian event. The penalty given to the four-time world champion pushed Verstappen ten seconds down in the GP standings, but that’s not all. The Barcellona GP stewards also opted for a heavy deduction of three points from the Red Bull driver’s super license.
The decision by the International Federation puts the ’97-born Hasselt driver in a delicate position after the Montmelò weekend. With the 3 penalty points on his super license, Max Verstappen rises to 11 points deducted from his license. This means the Dutch driver is now only one penalty point away from a one-race disqualification, which happens automatically upon reaching 12 points deducted within a calendar year.
Verstappen risks disqualification: the F1 penalty standings
Max Verstappen is the driver on the grid closest to the automatic “Race Ban.” With his 11 penalty points, he is well ahead of his “chasers,” Lawson and the trio Piastri-Bearman-Hulkenberg, who are at 6 and 4 penalty points respectively.
The four-time world champion must hold out until the end of June. Two penalty points will expire on Monday, June 30, 2025, right after the Austrian F1 GP. This means that if Verstappen collects another penalty point on his super license during the upcoming Canadian and Austrian GPs, he will be forced to miss one of the Spielberg or Silverstone events. Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton maintain clean records with no penalty points:
Max Verstappen – 11 points
Liam Lawson – 6 points
Oscar Piastri – 4 points
Oliver Bearman – 4 points
Nico Hulkenberg – 4 points
Lando Norris – 3 points
Lance Stroll – 3 points
Fernando Alonso – 2 points
Franco Colapinto – 2 points
Alexander Albon – 2 points
Carlos Sainz – 2 points
George Russell – 1 point
