If Friday’s practice sessions had hinted at a potential Red Bull – Scuderia Ferrari battle for pole position in Monaco, the final free practice session on the streets of Monte Carlo unfortunately painted a completely different picture. While the RB19 cars proved to be the ones to beat, the SF-23 seemed less comfortable on the streets of the Principality.
The local hero, Charles Leclerc, was the one who complained about the most difficulties, dealing with issues related to bouncing. “Can you check what’s happening in the S before the swimming pool?” the Monegasque asked via radio. “The car is bouncing a lot.”

Indeed, the TV footage seems to support the claims of car number 16, with his Ferrari experiencing several bouncing moments, especially in the second sector. The Monegasque then opened up again via radio, convinced that the current setup is completely inadequate.
“We need to change the car!” he thundered over the radio. “I have to lift off at the swimming pool because I can’t control it.” – he informed the Maranello team during FP3.
To confirm Leclerc’s lack of confidence in the current car balance, there was a final team radio message in which Charles asked the team to check for a possible contact with the barriers at turn 14:

“Can you check if I hit the wall?” he asked his Ferrari race engineer – “I think I at least grazed it, but from inside the car, I can’t tell if there’s any damage.”
The Scuderia will have to intervene as soon as possible, especially considering the importance of a quick lap on the streets of the Principality. Nothing is ruled out yet, especially considering the positive feelings that emerged during Friday’s sessions, although Red Bull seems to have found something extra in Monaco as well.
