F1 LIVE, FP1 Live Commentary: Ferrari hits the track for Free Practice 1 in Monaco, the Scuderia chasing redemption. The second event of the European triple-header promises a show, especially on Saturday. Qualifying in the Principality has always been the most thrilling session of the championship. But this year, the race itself also warrants attention: with a mandatory double pit stop, the Grand Prix could turn into a lottery.
After the Imola Grand Prix, Formula 1 moves to the French Riviera for one of the most glamorous weekends of the season. Celebrities, business tycoons, royals, and of course fans from around the world: everyone is in Monte Carlo. No one wants to miss the F1 cars storming through the narrow streets of the Principality in a procession that, in this edition, could be shaken up.
The double pit stop rule changes the game, theoretically forcing drivers to push flat out from lap one, ignoring tyre conservation and aiming to open up significant gaps. Watch out for traffic and aggressive strategies from those starting further back, who may try to roll the dice. McLaren are clear favourites, with Max Verstappen lurking, and street circuit specialist Charles Leclerc in the mix.
Live Commentary: What weather can we expect for Monaco FP1?
But if the double pit stop isn’t enough, the weekend’s unpredictability is also shaped by the weather. After the scare of rain in Imola, the same forecasts now cast shadows over the Monaco Grand Prix. No issues for Friday, with sunshine expected to grace the Côte d’Azur. Saturday is a different story: showers are expected in the afternoon, and all eyes will be on the radar.
Free Practice 1 LIVE: a chance for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc in Monaco?
Ferrari has its eyes on Monaco but is already thinking about Barcelona. The upcoming technical directive, which will force teams to change the front wing, could shake up the grid. Maranello is hoping for it – so is Mercedes – as both teams chase McLaren and, recently, Red Bull. If the SF-25 remains behind in Spain, Frédéric Vasseur might shift focus to 2026.
