LIVE: green flag for the Imola GP F1 qualifying, follow the live commentary of the fight for pole between McLaren and Ferrari. The Woking team is ready for another dominant weekend after the impressive performances in Miami. Maranello’s men will have to limit the damage on Saturday, aiming for a possible comeback in the race: the SF-25’s race pace looks promising.
After a Friday full of insights, with two practice sessions, it’s time to get serious at Imola. On a track where overtaking is particularly difficult – some even compare it to Monaco – starting at the front is imperative. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris know this well, as they are the big favorites for pole position with the MCL39: McLaren will once again be the car to beat.
Behind them, however, the field is tight and hard to predict. Both Mercedes and Red Bull, with their respective upgrades, will try to close the gap to the two Papayas. Also keep an eye on Alpine and Williams, both very fast in practice and capable of snatching important grid positions from the top teams. Attention on Ferrari, which has an excellent race pace but is weak on a single lap.
Imola weather: forecasts ahead of Grand Prix qualifying
Rain has been a faint but constant threat throughout the weekend so far. However, precipitation has spared the Imola circuit: Friday was sunny and so will Saturday be. No risk for either qualifying or the race. Clouds will only arrive next week when the Circus will already be heading to Monaco.
