After Ferrari’s disappointing qualifying in Las Vegas, a response has emerged to John Elkann’s recent comments. The words of the Ferrari president on the eve of the Las Vegas weekend shook the team, following the double zero scored in Brazil. The controversy had initially been addressed by the drivers themselves during Thursday press conferences, where both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton explained their perspective. Both Scuderia drivers confirmed that they did not view Elkann’s statements as an accusation against them and that they had been in contact with the president after the Interlagos race.
Response comes after Vegas qualifying
However, after the more than disappointing Las Vegas qualifying, the topic has resurfaced. During the post-session analysis, Sky Sport commentator Carlo Vanzini shared his view on the situation inside Ferrari. “Leclerc ninth, Hamilton twentieth. In Ferrari, they should stop talking until they start winning again. More than ‘thinking about driving,’ everyone should focus on working,” Carlo Vanzini declared.
“Without clarity, results cannot be achieved. There needs to be a clear understanding of roles. Leclerc always speaks very clearly, and you cannot reproach him for anything. If Ferrari does not find the right path, it will never become great again,” Carlo Vanzini added.
p>John Elkann’s original remark was interpreted by many as a subtle dig at the drivers after Brazil’s chaotic wet-race meltdown. The fact that Ferrari’s worst qualifying performance of the entire turbo-hybrid era arrived just days later has turned what was already a sensitive topic into an open wound.
Italian fans flooded social media agreeing with Carlo Vanzini’s sentiment: the Prancing Horse is in desperate need of results, not soundbites. The pressure on team principal Fred Vasseur and the entire Maranello operation has now reached boiling point with only three rounds left in 2025.
Sunday’s race is forecast dry – the conditions in which Ferrari looked genuinely competitive on Thursday. A big points haul could quiet the noise for a week. Another disappointment, however, and the calls for silence (and serious soul-searching) inside the most famous team in motorsport will only grow louder.
