FIA accredited Formula 1 journalist and analyst Giuliano Duchessa explains some of Scuderia Ferrari’s biggest problems since 2017 and how the Maranello team has been trying to solve them for the 2022 Formula 1 season. Here is the information reported by Giuliano Duchessa on Twitter:
“As we explained in the last article, from SF71H to SF1000, the cars suffered from rear overheating without being able to absord the flows around the Coca-Cola area (Coke bottle styling is an automotive body design with a narrow center surrounded by flaring fenders) losing downforce on the floor.
Which the SF70H car was able to solve with the original floor/short nose and was solved on the SF21 car for this season. After all, we often talk about the grey areas of the regulations.
It’s clear that the big problem of Ferrari that wasn’t competitive until the very end was that blackout. Ferrari tried in every way possible to solve it by bringing various vortex generators to direct the flows, but nothing…
At the end of 2019 Mattia Binotto zeroed in, pushed the reset button and took a gamble, risking a lot of his own effort. A source close to Ferrari told me: “Either you are able to fix the correlation issues or you will never have a certain basis to show our qualities if they are really there, and they are.”
The SF21 was a good first response
But it’s not enough, you have to be aggressive and I can assure you that you can feel the pressure in Maranello, however there are more certainties than some time ago. Confidence and humility which perhaps were never felt before. As always, there are no guarantees (because only one team wins) but raising the level of competence has been the goal.”
