In today’s edition of the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, there’s some very interesting news regarding the progress displayed by the two Ferrari cars. Could it have been meticulous suspension work that has led to the improvement of the Ferrari SF-23?
Formula 1 moves to the Land of the Rising Sun for the 17th race of the 2023 World Championship. Compared to the Singapore Grand Prix, which was twisty and filled with low-speed restarts, Suzuka presents the opposite challenge with its many fast corners that require downforce and good straight-line speed. These characteristics don’t align perfectly with the SF-23, but it seems that Ferrari has turned things around since Zandvoort. Two pole positions, a podium, and a victory serve as evidence of this change. These results might indeed be the outcome of a careful analysis of Ferrari’s suspension.
According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, the strides made by the prancing horse could put it back in the upper echelons of the standings. The Italian publication suggests that a meticulous process of understanding and optimizing the rear suspensions has taken place. In fact, there’s talk of a weight reduction of 3 kg, a significant figure that has allowed the SF-23 to come in under the minimum regulatory weight of 798 kg. This could provide Ferrari with a substantial ballast margin to fine-tune the car’s balance. Additionally, as the Roman newspaper reports, the clutch-gearbox assembly of the red car has become “a bomb” following the latest updates that ensured blistering starts in Singapore and Monza.
Suzuka will serve as an excellent testing ground to assess the work done on the SF-23 and verify its reduced susceptibility to wind affecting the car’s aerodynamics. This factor has made the prancing horse’s single-seater unpredictable and inconsistent in the current season.
