Italian blogger Leo Turrini, who is famously very close to proceedings at Ferrari, reflects on the latest developments in his quotidiano.net blog, explaining the reasons which led to Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel parting ways. The Italian journalist also indicated Valtteri Bottas as possible replacement for the German driver, in his latest blog entry entitled “Vettel and the secrets of a farewell (and keep an eye on Bottas)”:
“I said it would take a month. It took less than a week.
The separation between Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel at the end of 2020 is part of the logic of things. Let me explain. Given the post-pandemic situation, the Maranello team was interested in freezing the situation throughout 2021. But obviously on different economic conditions. And from Maranello’s point of view, with Leclerc under contract for a long time, it was not imaginable to focus on the German beyond the 2021 deadline.
Seb had to answer and wasted no time. He didn’t like the “expiry date yogurt” solution and I understand it. He has his good reasons, of course. In practice, the two positions were irreconcilable and speaking of the Ferrari ultimatum days ago I had been explicit about it.
Let’s leave the official declarations alone. And I assure you that the money wasn’t the detonator. It was a matter of different visions and perceptions. The Iban can always be fixed at those levels there. The heart, no.
Problems.
One. Should this wretched season begin, how would the separated ones face it? As a matter of practice, I trust the professionalism of the spouses. I trust, I don’t bet on it.
Two. Leclerc bears the weight of a leadership to be exercised alone, or almost. I think he will make it, but it will not be easy.
Three. For 2021 to the hugely popular Sainz and the more difficult Ricciardo, in addition to Giovinazzi, you can add (aaaarggghhhh !!!) the name of Valterino Bottas.
Finally, the judgment.
Vettel gave a lot to Ferrari. He will not won the world championship, except for miracles caused by a pandemic in 2020! And enriches a list that includes names such as Mansell, Prost, Alonso …
I think he will have the great regret of 2018, that summer of Marchionne’s tragedy, the summer also of his mistakes on the track.
I love Seb. He deserved more.
But when there is no desire to continue living and suffering together, it is better to close.
This is why the months of 2020, if there are races, worry me.
But we will have a chance to talk about it.”
