On the eve of the Qatar Grand Prix, Fred Vasseur spoke about the importance of securing second place in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship for a Ferrari that finds itself trailing behind its rivals. The team led by Fred Vasseur arrived in Qatar with more than fifty points to recover from Mercedes, which currently holds second position in the constructors’ standings. With only two races and a Sprint left in the season, Ferrari is therefore facing an extremely difficult challenge if it wants to match the result achieved last year.
Fred Vasseur explains Ferrari’s approach
Despite the situation, judging by the recent comments from the team’s leadership, Ferrari does not appear to be placing too much weight on the current standings. In some ways, this was confirmed by Fred Vasseur himself during the Lusail press conference reserved for team representatives.
“Of course I would prefer to be in second place with a solid points advantage over the other teams. But honestly, I’m not giving too much importance to the gap that exists at the moment,” said the former Alfa Romeo boss.
He continued by saying: “But I had the same approach last year before arriving in Abu Dhabi. I believe that we have to focus only on ourselves and on trying to maximise the result in these final weeks of the year. There are still two and a half races and a lot of points available. So we will think about ourselves, and at the end of the season we will see what position we have reached.”
Fred Vasseur’s calm message reflects Ferrari’s determination to extract every possible point from the SF-25 in the closing stages of the 2025 Formula 1 campaign, keeping the dream of second place in the constructors’ championship very much alive despite the odds.
