Jock Clear, former Senior Performance Engineer at Ferrari, has spoken about the difficulties experienced by Lewis Hamilton and about what it truly takes to win in Formula 1.
“It will be the year of the Horse.” Just these few words, linked to the Chinese horoscope, were enough to reignite enthusiasm among Ferrari Tifosi regarding Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion, after a 2025 season filled with problems and difficulties, is determined to give real meaning to his arrival in Maranello by chasing the elusive eighth world title that slipped through his fingers five years ago.
To achieve that goal, it will certainly be necessary to have a car capable of fighting at the highest level, as well as to fully exploit everything Lewis Hamilton has learned over twelve months spent familiarising himself with a working method very different from the one he was used to. This is exactly what both Lewis Hamilton himself and the Ferrari faithful are hoping for, after being left disappointed by the first season of the driver wearing number 44 in red.
Jock Clear’s reassurance after Lewis’ problems
This topic was addressed directly by Jock Clear, former Senior Performance Engineer at Ferrari, in a recent interview given to CasinoHawks. From doubts surrounding the 2026 regulations to the difficulties Lewis Hamilton faced during his debut season with the Prancing Horse, Jock Clear wanted to reassure the Tifosi about the true level and value of the seven-time world champion.
“I would like to remind everyone that even Michael had difficulties when he arrived at Ferrari. It took five years before he won anything. Some things take time, they do not happen overnight,” Jock Clear explained.
“And I think Lewis’ season shows just how difficult and competitive Formula 1 really is. If he had won the title immediately in his first year at Ferrari, it would have diminished this sport,” Jock Clear then concluded.
The road to glory in Maranello has rarely been a sprint, but rather a marathon of technical and psychological endurance. While the pressure from the Italian media and the fans remains relentless, Jock Clear’s words show that the foundation for a championship era is often built during these difficult moments of transition. As the 2026 regulations loom on the horizon, the hope is that this period of adaptation will provide the springboard Lewis Hamilton needs to finally secure his place in Ferrari’s history books.
