Why isn’t Lewis Hamilton at all worried about the gap with Charles Leclerc? An analysis from the seven-time world champion.
Even though the 2025 season was far from easy for Lewis Hamilton in his first year with Ferrari, he is not making a drama out of it. Despite the clear difference in results between him and his teammate Charles Leclerc, Hamilton has made it clear that he is not worried at all. Driving for Ferrari has always been a dream for many drivers, and for Lewis Hamilton as well. Yet the reality turned out to be tougher than expected: Charles Leclerc, who has been with Ferrari for years and knows every detail of the team, outperformed him in 18 out of 21 races and finished the season with significantly more points.
But the good news is that Lewis Hamilton is not panicking ahead of the 2026 F1 season. According to him, the gap is not something to fear, but simply the result of a natural adaptation process: new engineers, a new team, and a car that, while iconic, was not the easiest to drive this year. Expecting to be immediately on the same level as Charles Leclerc, who has built years of experience and understanding within Ferrari, would have been unrealistic.
Lewis Hamilton still wants to win!
Yet off-track, many have already started talking about “decline,” a driver past his prime, or a wrong career choice. Do we really believe that a seven-time world champion could forget how to drive in just one year? Lewis Hamilton explained that he is still integrating into the team and that achieving the same level of harmony that Charles Leclerc has built over seven seasons with Ferrari is not easy. Despite all of this, he has never shown signs of panic or frustration. On the contrary, he has continued to work quietly, focusing on personal improvement and strengthening the relationship with his team. His mindset is clear: this season does not define his value.
After all, Lewis Hamilton’s career speaks for itself. He is one of the most successful drivers in history and has already proven he can respond to difficult moments. The gap with Charles Leclerc is real, but it is not definitive. With the new rules coming in 2026, there is reason to believe that the internal Ferrari battle is only beginning… and that Lewis Hamilton still has plenty of fuel left in the tank.
Ultimately, Lewis Hamilton’s unflustered reaction reflects a champion’s maturity. He’s here for the long haul, ready to turn adaptation into dominance when the opportunity arises.
