The Formula 1 race weekend at the Hungaroring circuit will not only mark the conclusion of the first half of the 2025 World Championship, but it will also kick off an essential testing phase aimed at preparing for the 2026 Formula 1 season. Immediately following the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Budapest track will remain active, hosting a two-day testing session organized by Pirelli on Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6. These sessions are designed to support the development of the next generation of Formula 1 tyres that will debut with the sweeping regulatory changes coming in 2026.
The test is part of Pirelli’s homologation process for the 2026 tyre specifications. According to the calendar set by the FIA, the structural aspects of the new tyres must be approved by September 1, 2025, while the final selection of compounds will need to be homologated no later than December 15. As such, the Budapest testing days represent a crucial step in the tyre development program, not only for Pirelli as the sole tyre supplier in Formula 1, but also for the teams participating in the sessions.
Which Teams Are Participating in the Pirelli Tyre Test After the Hungarian Grand Prix?
Four Formula 1 teams are scheduled to take part in the post-race testing at the Hungaroring:
Scuderia Ferrari – participating for one day
Visa Cash App Racing Bulls – participating for one day
McLaren F1 Team – participating for one day
Alpine F1 Team – participating across both days
During these sessions, the teams will focus on two main areas of development. First, they will contribute to finalizing the construction of the 2026 tyres, testing different carcass and structural solutions. Second, they will begin trialing early prototypes of the new compounds, which will require additional testing throughout the remainder of the year to reach final approval.
Upcoming Tyre Test Dates and Locations
The Budapest test is only the beginning of a broader test calendar planned by Pirelli to ensure the tyres are fully optimized for the new technical regulations that will be introduced in 2026. The upcoming sessions will take place at the following locations:
Two days at Monza Circuit (Italy)
Two days at Mugello Circuit (Italy)
Two days at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City
These future test days will be key to completing the development and validation of the tyres that will equip the next generation of Formula 1 cars. The 2026 season will bring major regulatory shifts, particularly concerning power unit architecture and aerodynamic efficiency, both of which will require tyre performance that is even more consistent and adaptable.
As the exclusive tyre supplier for the Formula 1 World Championship, Pirelli continues to work in close collaboration with all F1 teams to ensure that safety, performance, and durability remain at the highest level in an increasingly complex and evolving technical environment.
