With Charles Leclerc’s victory and Carlos Sainz’s fourth place at Monza in the Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari has already surpassed the points total achieved in the constructors’ championship in 2023.
A different situation compared to 2023
Despite the unfavorable predictions, Ferrari leaves Monza with the great satisfaction of not only defeating a McLaren that everyone had favored and now considered the leading force on the grid, but also, and above all, of giving another enormous joy to its fans after the fantastic victory achieved once again with Charles Leclerc on the same track and in front of the same sea of red five years ago.
The championship title may not come this year either, but raise your hand if, on the eve of the 2024 Formula 1 season, you thought that after sixteen races, the constructors’ championship would be more open than ever, with Ferrari only 39 points behind Red Bull, with eight races and three sprint races still to go.
In just sixteen Grands Prix, the Maranello team has already surpassed the points total achieved last season (407 versus 406). This once again testifies to a progress that is almost miraculous, considering the strength on display in the last race in Abu Dhabi last December.
It has also been a great season so far for Charles Leclerc himself, who can already boast nine more points than in the previous championship (216 versus 207). This is complemented by two victories compared to zero twelve months ago and eight podiums to six.
Carlos Sainz has also had an excellent season so far, only 16 points away from the 200 points achieved in 2023. However, the evaluation of his season is also affected by the zero in Jeddah when the Spaniard had to withdraw to undergo emergency surgery for appendicitis, handing over his SF24 to Oliver Bearman.
