Scuderia Ferrari does not bring important technical innovations to Imola, limiting itself to adapting the SF21 to the characteristics of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit, a very different track from that of Sakhir in Bahrain.
Enrico Cardile and the Racing Department technicians have decided not to debut the updates in the first European race, choosing to continue understanding the SF21 in the hope that they can extract the maximum potential from the car.
The Maranello team has decided to introduce a rear wing with a main spoon profile on the banks of the Santerno to reduce aerodynamic drag, but to ensure the necessary load it has decided to introduce a mobile flap with a greater chord than that seen at Sakhir. Overhanging the dorsal fin there is no T-wing, as seen in Bahrain.
Ferrari, therefore, has not completed the learning phase of the SF21: in particular there is a great expectation on the possibility of taking a further step forward by exploiting a decidedly different weather from that experienced in Bahrain: in Imola it is cold and there is also the risk of rain for the race.
The hope of the Maranello engineers is to be able to exploit the potential of the Pirelli tires with the different compounds and avoid the overheating that occurred in the tests in Bahrain and which was contained, at least in part, during the Sakhir race weekend.
Imola represents an opportunity to assess whether the SF21 car is able to rival McLaren and become the third force in the world championship behind the untouchable Mercedes and Red Bull.
