Scuderia Ferrari emerged from the Spanish Grand Prix with their heads down once again, and Fred Vasseur is well aware of it. While the SF-23 managed to secure a second-place position in qualifying thanks to Carlos Sainz, the car’s issues continue to plague both drivers during the race.
In Barcelona, Carlos Sainz failed to reach the podium and dropped to fifth place. Charles Leclerc, starting from the pit lane due to his qualifying troubles, was unable to even enter the points zone.
In a post-race interview reported by Motorsport, Fred Vasseur analyzed Ferrari’s difficulties: “I think the main problem for us is not the potential over a single lap, this type of corner or that one. The main problem is consistency.” He admitted, “Charles’ car, for example, between the first and third stint with the same compound, the balance was off in the first stint. The last stint was fine. Carlos had a decent first stint and a good last stint. In between, he lost 15 or 20 seconds to his competitors.” – he pointed out.
According to Frederic Vasseur, it’s not a tire degradation problem but rather an overall car issue with a different deficit each time, and no one in Maranello can identify and resolve it.

Regarding the issue of consistency during the race, Frederic Vasseur stated that the Maranello team is focusing on trying to solve it: “Perhaps we can orient development a bit towards consistency. To have a car that is easier to drive and carry forward on the track. It’s the direction we’ve taken in the past two months or weeks.”
Excluding the chassis, Frederic Vasseur concluded by stating his belief that the problem needs to be identified from stint to stint since the performance changes each time. In short, unfortunately the SF-23 single-seater seems to be a true nightmare of a car.
