Not the best day for Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz, at the first outing in the SF21 car on the home circuit. The Spaniard managed to set the sixth fastest time in the morning session, while he was only eighth in the afternoon. His simulation on the soft tires was far from ideal: Carlos’ times do not seem encouraging, unlike those of Charles Leclerc on medium tires. Something did not work even at the set-up level and Carlos Sainz is confident for Saturday, but also biased towards entering in Q3.
“The asphalt had a lot of grip, we saw it already in FP1, and this helped us find the right overall balance of the car. In FP2, on the other hand, especially in the last sector, I felt the car less balanced – explained the Spaniard – we will continue to work hard to set everything in the best possible way for tomorrow’s qualifying. It won’t be easy to get into Q3 because I expect three or four cars in the same tenth, so we have to be sure to get there as prepared as possible.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz explained after FP2 at Circuit de Catalunya.
