F1 | Ferrari Filming Day at Mugello to Test New Suspension: Major Turning Point Could Be Near
Scuderia Ferrari is set to return to the track on July 16 at the Mugello Circuit for an important filming day, during which the team will test one of the most eagerly anticipated updates for the SF-25 single-seater: the brand-new suspension system. This component has been designed to address several persistent balance issues that have emerged during recent Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends, particularly affecting performance and tire degradation.
As officially confirmed, activities will begin in the morning hours of Wednesday, maximizing the limited available running time permitted under promotional filming day regulations, as outlined by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). These rules allow teams to carry out specific promotional events but limit the total mileage and tire use. Despite its official designation as a “filming day,” this test is expected to have much greater strategic relevance for Scuderia Ferrari.
Ferrari Targets Spa-Francorchamps as Launch Point for Season Revival
The primary objective for Ferrari’s technical staff is to assess the real-world track behavior of the new suspension system under live conditions, just days before the start of the summer break and ahead of the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. This is the event where the new suspension package is expected to make its full race debut. The revised setup has the potential to significantly impact the SF-25’s performance, especially in high-speed corners and in the management of tire wear—two of the car’s most critical weak points so far in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
The Mugello circuit, known for its fast and flowing corners as well as the aerodynamic demands it places on cars, represents an ideal environment for such technical evaluation. Its diverse cornering profiles and elevation changes make it a valuable testing ground for both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton as they help Ferrari prepare the SF-25 for future challenges.
Ferrari’s Mid-Season Push for Performance Gains
After a promising yet inconsistent start to the 2025 Formula One season, Scuderia Ferrari is counting heavily on this development step to reignite its competitive ambitions for the second half of the championship. The new suspension system has been developed in parallel with data analysis and simulations based on feedback from earlier Grand Prix events. It has been engineered to improve adaptability to a wide range of track conditions, particularly on circuits that demand a high level of aerodynamic balance and mechanical grip.
Even though the FIA regulations for filming days impose strict limitations on total running distance and mandate the use of specific tires not intended for racing, this test still represents a crucial opportunity. It will allow Ferrari engineers—both trackside at Mugello and remotely connected with the factory team at Maranello—to collect essential telemetry data. They will carefully monitor setup adjustments, analyze the dynamic response of the SF-25, and evaluate the initial impact of the new suspension architecture.
All Eyes on Mugello for Key SF-25 Development Test
As a result, all attention in the Formula 1 world will be focused on Mugello, where Ferrari’s upgraded SF-25 will undergo its first real-world trial with the revised suspension. The outcome of this test could prove to be a decisive turning point for the remainder of the Scuderia’s 2025 season. The Maranello-based team hopes that this evolution in design will bring the performance breakthrough needed to challenge Red Bull Racing, McLaren, and Mercedes-AMG Petronas more consistently in the second part of the championship.
