Christian Horner’s name has returned to the centre of speculation at Ferrari, despite the confirmed presence of Frederic Vasseur as team principal. Bernie Ecclestone has strongly revived the rumours surrounding Horner’s future, placing Ferrari among the possible destinations for the British manager. The former Formula 1 boss, known for his sharp and direct tone, stated: “I wouldn’t rule out Ferrari at all. It’s just chaos over there.” His comment immediately triggered renewed discussion in the paddock, especially considering the already tense atmosphere surrounding the Scuderia.
Horner has left Red Bull after twenty years, and his departure has opened a number of questions about the next step in his career. “He still wants to come back,” said sources close to the manager. “But he wants more power, a role that truly allows him to make decisions.” When Bernie Ecclestone was pressed about rumours suggesting that he himself could be involved in a joint project with Christian Horner, he responded jokingly: “How old do I have to be before people stop inventing stories about me?”
During the interview with BLICK, Bernie Ecclestone also commented on the rumour linking Horner to Aston Martin. “Another team I’m supposed to buy with him,” he joked again, before adding another pointed remark: “But hadn’t Adrian Newey left Red Bull because he no longer wanted to work with Christian Horner?” A comment that reopens old wounds and suggests that the futures of the technical director and the former team principal may be less connected than expected.
The options available to Horner remain limited. Red Bull and Mercedes? Impossible: those doors are closed for obvious reasons. Williams, Cadillac and Aston Martin have already stepped back, while with Haas “there were talks, but nothing happened,” as confirmed by an internal source. Alpine, however, still remains a concrete possibility thanks to Horner’s links with Flavio Briatore. There, the former Red Bull boss could enjoy greater authority — exactly what he is looking for.
Despite this, the Ferrari option remains firmly in the spotlight. Bernie Ecclestone intensified the debate by connecting the current turmoil in Maranello with the latest internal tensions: “Elkann is now even insulting his two drivers.” A direct reference to the recent controversies involving Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, which, according to some insiders, may be weakening the unity of the team.
The final question is straightforward: would Christian Horner really accept the challenge of leading Ferrari? Bernie Ecclestone ended with an enigmatic smile: “In Formula 1, never say never.” And given the current climate, nobody seems ready to rule out a scenario that would be nothing short of sensational.
