A Ferrari – Red Bull alliance? It might sound strange, but it seems to exist. The two teams that have so far competed for all the race wins in all the rounds of the 2022 Formula 1 season, would in fact agree that the proposed amendments to the Regulations, which are supported by Mercedes, to resolve the porpoising are not satisfactory.
The doubt is that the three-pointed star team hides a lack of performance behind alleged safety problems that could be fixed by raising the floor edges of the cars for the next championship, as imposed by the FIA with the recent changes that will be introduced for the 2023 F1 campaign.
Naturally Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull, which are well controlling the phenomenon of “bouncing”, do not agree with this, firstly because they do not encounter any issues with porpoising and secondly because they are well aware that Mercedes have most to benefit from the rule changes for 2023.
The Maranello team principal Mattia Binotto thus wanted to share his thoughts on the matter, confirming the comments made a few weeks ago by the Milton Keynes team.
“We are opposed in the fight for the championship, but when it comes to regulations and the future of Formula 1, I think there should only be common sense from everyone. We do it for the good of Formula 1 as a whole.” – said Mattia Binotto when asked about the alliance with Red Bull.

“I have no idea if any changes to the regulations would be in our favor or in Red Bull’s favor. I don’t know and I don’t care. If you think this way about every single topic, then it becomes lobbying. It is certainly not a positive attitude for sport in the medium and long term. We are Ferrari and we certainly have a responsibility to look at the medium and long term future of the sport as well. I believe it is very important to always have a responsible and balanced approach when evaluating and making crucial decisions for the future of Formula 1.” – Scuderia Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto concluded, in a recent interview for Motorsport Italy.
