In a recent interview, Piero Ferrari reaffirmed Charles Leclerc’s central role within the team and highlighted the deep bond between the Monegasque driver and Maranello.
Piero Ferrari’s words have reignited the debate over Charles Leclerc’s importance to both the present and the future of the Scuderia. Speaking in a recent interview for the Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the Ferrari vice chairman underlined how the Monegasque driver has become a true cornerstone of the project — not only because of the speed and talent he displays on track, but also because of his strong connection to the Ferrari colours.
Piero Ferrari: Leclerc is a certainty
When asked about Charles Leclerc’s specific weight within the Ferrari project, Piero Ferrari had no hesitation in describing him as indispensable. “Charles is a driver of extraordinary speed and he has shown it in direct comparisons with his team-mates,” he told Corriere dello Sport.
“He is one of those drivers capable of extracting the maximum from any car, in any condition.” Words that confirm the total confidence placed in car number 16, who is widely considered one of the pillars on which Ferrari aim to build their renewed assault on the Formula 1 world championship.
The dream of a world title with Ferrari
According to Piero Ferrari, there is only one piece missing to complete Charles Leclerc’s journey in red: winning the Formula 1 world championship. “For me he is an absolute certainty. The only thing he is missing is the satisfaction of becoming world champion, a goal he fully deserves,” he added.
“It would be recognition not only of his talent, but also of the strong attachment he has always shown towards Ferrari.”
The message is clear: Ferrari believe in Charles Leclerc and see him as an integral part of their long-term future in Formula 1. Now, however, the Scuderia must provide the Monegasque with the right car to turn that faith into concrete results. Because while his talent is beyond question, the world title remains the ultimate target still to be achieved.
Piero Ferrari’s public endorsement of Charles Leclerc reveals the stability Maranello seeks during this period of radical change. By labeling the Monegasque driver an “absolute certainty” and “indispensable,” the Vice Chairman is making it clear that the team’s championship aspirations are firmly centered around the Monegasque’s ability to master the new SF-26. While the technical challenges of the 2026 Power Units remain a significant variable, the internal hierarchy at Ferrari appears more unified than ever. Charles Leclerc has the talent and the “blessing” of the Ferrari family; the only question left for the 2026 season is whether the car can finally match the ambition of the driver who has given his heart to the Scuderia.
