For weeks now, rumors have been circulating one after another regarding the imminent separation between Mattia Binotto and Scuderia Ferrari, a sign of no more solid trust from president John Elkann and managing director Benedetto Vigna for the Italian engineer.
The four victories and twelve pole positions taken by the Maranello team in the 2022 Formula 1 season, accompanied by second place in the Drivers’ and Constructors’ championships, were not enough to strengthen the relationship between the Ferrari top management owners and Mattia Binotto, who managed to bring the Prancing Horse back to fighting for race wins after two long and disappointing seasons.
The Italian engineer has therefore decided to resign from his position as Team Principal and Ferrari to accept it, while specifying that he will remain in charge of the Racing Division until 31 December. Thus, after four years, Mattia Binotto’s experience as team principal ends and the Maranello team is already moving to look for his successor.
Rumors speak of a Frederic Vasseur, his counterpart in Sauber Alfa Romeo, who remains in pole position to take over the Maranello team, although the Ferrari top management is not totally convinced that Frederic Vasseur is the best option. Surprises are therefore not excluded, with John Elkann and Benedetto Vigna who have decided not to rush and continue to evaluate possible options, as specified in the official press release which indicated the probable appointment of the new head of the Scuderia in 2023: “The process is underway to identify Scuderia Ferrariās new Team Principal and is expected to be finalised in the new year.” – the Ferrari official statements informs.
