“The new Power Unit will arrive soon” – these were the comments of Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz, spoken at the end of a disappointing Dutch Grand Prix for the Maranello team. It is indeed a difficult moment for the Italian side, undoubtedly the most complicated since the start of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
Strategy errors and mistakes with operational procedures happened several times in 2022, but never until know was the F1-75 car unable to challenge Red Bull in terms of pace and performance. If we also take into consideration the fact that Charles Leclerc gave up second place at Circuit Zandvoort to George Russell’s Mercedes, the situation becomes complicated.
And now focus on Monza. Formula 1 heads to Italy for the second time this season, and course the Maranello team is keen to do well in front of its home fans. Assuming that challenging Red Bull at the Monza circuit will not be easy, as the RB18 cars so far proved unstoppable on the straights, Scuderia Ferrari does not want to arrive unprepared for this special event.
Carlos Sainz himself confirmed in an interview with Sky Sport that “the new Power Unit will arrive soon”. A fresh engine, therefore, for the F1-75 of the Spaniard, which will probably be mounted in the Italian Grand Prix, meaning that Carlos will have to take a grid penalty. With Formula 1 moving to Singapore after Italy, Monza seems a much better circuit to start from the back and hope for a comeback race.
After the replacement of the internal combustion engine, there will now be that of the hybrid system, more efficient and lighter by about 2kg. In doing so, the F1-75 should be able to lose those few extra kilos that separated it from the minimum weight allowed by the Regulations for this season.

As for Charles Leclerc, the Monegasque driver was able to take advantage of the new power unit right from the Spa-Francorchamps appointment. The specific number five power unit of Maranello proved to be able to stand up to Red Bull in terms of power with an F1-75 which, due to its construction characteristics, is in any case less efficient than the RB18 on the straights. The potential unveiled may not be everything, however. According to rumors circulating in the Paddock, Ferrari would have kept some power in its pocket in the last two rounds to try and use the engine at full power in Monza. The weekend of the Italian Grand Prix is upon us and the mix of anticipation and tension is palpable. Will Ferrari be able to seize that victory that would be so good for the Tifosi at home?
