After heavily criticizing Daniel Ricciardo two weeks ago in Canada, urging him to leave Formula 1 as he is no longer deserving of a seat in the top class, Jacques Villeneuve seems to have found a new target: Enrico Cardile, who is set to join Aston Martin after the news emerged yesterday.

The news coincides with one of Ferrari’s worst weekends this season (apart from the double retirement in Montreal), with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz having to settle for an anonymous fifth and sixth place, a result far from pre-race expectations at the Circuit de Catalunya.
In Barcelona, the Maranello team managed to beat the clock on the development front, introducing most of the update package initially planned for Silverstone already at Montmelò.
However, even though the new modifications helped increase the car’s aerodynamic load and overall efficiency, the Ferrari suffered from bouncing on the long high-speed corners of the Catalan track.
This resulted in Sunday’s performance, with the first of the two Ferraris finishing a full 22 seconds behind the winner, Max Verstappen.
Speaking on Hammer Time Live, the Canadian believes that Maranello’s team will not suffer technically from losing Enrico Cardile: “Is it risky for them to lose Cardile? Absolutely not, just look at the standings. Who has caught up to Red Bull? McLaren, not Ferrari.” – the former Formula 1 driver pointed out.
“Obviously, those currently leading the technical chain and those who were there before are not good enough. It’s very disappointing to see Ferrari as the third force. McLaren, which has made giant strides, should not have been the team to take that role.” – he added.

The 1997 world champion then gave his opinion on Frederic Vasseur’s performance so far, with Ferrari, despite scoring few points in the last two races, still firmly in second place in the constructors’ championship: “Honestly, I don’t know how to judge him yet. I think it will take two years to understand the value of his work. In the end, he found himself with a team that was not his.”
As previously mentioned, Loic Serra, highly desired by the French manager to strengthen the technical department, is expected to replace Enrico Cardile. Loic Serra is one of the key figures who helped make Mercedes great during its period of dominance from 2014 to 2021.
